While most carpet cleaning companies make the same promises, not all can deliver. So, how can you tell just which company to choose? Here are some questions you can ask to help you make the right decision.
How long have you been in business? This gives you an idea if how much experience a particular company has. While some newer companies may do a good job as well, they may lack some knowledge only experience can teach. Additionally, a company that has been in business for several years likely has a solid customer base they’ve acquired from repeat business and referrals.
What type of training and certifications do you have? There are no special certifications required to clean carpets, any guy with a machine and a business license can clean your carpet. How do you avoid hiring just that? Ask about certifications. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration is the carpet cleaning and restoration industries oversight of certifications and education. They hold strict standards and guidelines you must learn and adhere to in order to be certified with the IICRC. To become certified, you must complete specific education, and pass tests to prove your knowledge. Although this certification is not required, it’s a good indication the company in question is working within the guidelines of the industries standard
Do you carry a business license and insurance? If they say no, run. Any reputable company should have a valid business license, and liability/workman’s compensation insurance. Failure to carry either is a HUGE red flag, and it is strongly discouraged to do business with these companies.
What’s the price? If it sounds to good to be true, it likely is- and you get what you pay for holds true here as well. You may be tempted by cleaners who offer deals such as 3 rooms for $69. Often, the low price doesn’t even include all the steps needed to do the job properly, let alone thoroughly. At $23/room, any company would have to rush through to make any kind of profit, which should raise a red flag as to the quality you will receive. Price alone should never be a deciding factor. Reputable companies that have been in business several years may be priced a bit higher, but these prices reflect quality, knowledge, and experience.
