Coffee On Your Carpet: What To Do

Coffee stains cleaned up fast

This caffeine favorite gives us the energy we need to make it through the workweek and beyond, and just plain tastes delicious. However, rarely do people (especially those with children) get to enjoy their gourmet cup of Joe in silence.

For most, the morning routine consists of rushing around with coffee in hand, trying to locate your car keys or pair of shoes. What happens next is hardly surprising. That hot liquid splashes out and lands right in the wrong spot, your carpet! Instead of letting this incident ruin your day, clean it up fast with these helpful tips.

Help for the careless coffee drinker

After the spill occurs, you may just want to head out the door and deal with it later. Do not! At the end of your long day you are going to come home to a dark, brown carpet stain that has no intentions of going anywhere. The general rule of thumb for any spill is to make cleaning it priority number one. We know this is the last thing you want to do in the wee hours of the morning, but doing so will save a ton of time and stress later on.

Grab that roll of paper towels and get to work; we trust you have cleaned your fair share of messes, but believe it important to say “blot not scrub.” The palm of your hand will work just fine, but for larger spills you may want to use the soles of your feet. Consider it a way of getting a bit of early morning exercise; now that is thinking on the bright side!

Grab a sponge of cloth and wet it with cold water, not warm. The stain will set faster if you do, and we know you do not want that. For light coffee brews like lattes, you can probably stop here, but those who prefer their blends dark will need to bust out the dish detergent and white vinegar.

The latter should be used at the end, as it will remove any remaining detergent residue that could attract dirt to the area. Blot once more with a lot of weight (consider placing a heavy pan on the cloth) and leave the spot alone overnight. When you come back, that hideous coffee stain will be gone![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
